Omega 6:3 ratio: what does it actually measure?
The omega 6:3 ratio is one of the values you may encounter in a fatty-acid analysis. But what is being measured, and what can you reasonably conclude from the result?
It looks at fatty acids in a blood sample
The Zinzino BalanceTest uses a dried blood spot method. You collect a small finger-prick blood sample at home on filter paper. According to the product information, the laboratory analyses a set of fatty acids and reports several fatty-acid-related markers, including information about omega 6:3 balance.
Why can a ratio be useful?
A ratio shows how selected measured omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids relate to each other. It is a personal data point you can use when looking more deliberately at your nutrition and supplement routine.
What does the test not tell you?
A fatty-acid test does not tell you how healthy you are overall and it does not diagnose disease. One marker also does not automatically explain symptoms, energy or performance. Treat the result as specific information, not a verdict on your health.
The value is in measuring, understanding and comparing
The useful part is not just one number. It is having a personal starting point, understanding what was measured and being able to test again later to compare the same markers.
